"Only one hour a day" to play video games.

Depends on who is being restricted. let's say a teen comes home from a hard day at school. he has good grades, never gets in trouble, always gets his homework and chores done, so he likes to play some videos games for about two or three hours a day, depending on if he has plans to hang out with friends or family. he has self control, self discipline, and responsibility, so his mom telling him he can only play for an hour a day is a bit absurd.

"Only one hour a day" to play video games.

Next door is another teen. He NEVER finishes his homework, stays up WAY too late, so he sleeps during class, never does his chores, and even rarely takes a shower. he lazes around, never leaves the house unless he's required to, and often fakes sick to try and get out of school. why? because he literally plays his video games CONSTANTLY. they have become such an extreme addiction, it has taken over his life. he's unhealthy, irresponsible, and has no work ethic. HE needs to be limited to one hour a day by his parents, because this obsession is a problem.
I could barely do anything in one hour, especially when you play games like skyrim with tones of load screens, lots of multiplayer with lobby rooms, and occasional times where I glitch out, etc. Other than those, my accomplishments on games were very little. I was pressured to take the games too seriously and focus on rushing through them without relaxing and enjoying them. My parents didn't care that I played sports, spent 8 hours per day at school, went out all the time on weekends.
One hour just sucks. The only time people should set hourly limits is if they have really bad habits. If they don't, parents need to just need to keep a fair play rule, where they play games when they want, but they must complete homework first, do their chores, eat meals properly, and go out every so often. They also need to take breaks every hour, and if they have been on for hours at a time, the parents should decide that they need to go and do something else.

Parents don't understand that the gaming industry has changed DRAMATICALLY. and they don't understand that gaming doesn't have to be just a hobby. there are legitimate Esport competitions for hundreds thousands of dollars. and you can barely do anything in an hour. and it feels like a lot less time for the people playing. "Time flies when your having fun" so yes, I think that it is pretty stupid. but if parents insist on a time limit. 3-3 and a half hours sounds pretty reasonable. Unless the child is immature or very young like 4-10.
